The Yonkers chapter of the Westchester Black Women’s Political Caucus will hold a free enrollment fair and forum on the Affordable Care Act on November 23.
The five-hour event at the Yonkers Public Library’s Riverfront branch starts at 11 a.m. with a panel discussion at noon. Local health care experts, insurance providers and community groups will also be on hand to help the public understand President Barack Obama’s health care initiative.
Tara Martin, a Yonkers resident helping to promote the event, said the goal is to educate the predominantly minority residents of the city’s west side about the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, which includes free preventive mammograms and free annual gynecology visits.
“If you’re talking about a community that doesn’t focus on preventive care, those benefits are really important,” Martin said today.
The fair and forum will have several stations, including and ACA Zone where attendees will be able to ask questions one-on-one, an enrollment center, booths of community resources and a story wall where attendees can share their experiences.
The Riverfront branch is located at One Larkin Center.
