The City of Peekskill has won a Gold Award in AAA New York’s Community Traffic Safety Awards Program, Traffic Safety and Government Affairs Director John Corlett announced recently.
The city was cited for its many traffic safety efforts including their STOP DWI Program and their School Zone Traffic Enforcement Program. The efforts of the Peekskill police officers, according to Chief Eric Johansen, has enhanced the safety for those who utilize Peekskill’s many roadways resulting in a more than 10 percent reduction in the number of motor vehicle accidents when compared with the previous year.
All award winners in the New York metropolitan area were honored during a luncheon ceremony held Oct. 10 at the Carltun East Meadow. AAA New York, the local AAA affiliate, presented a total of 64 awards. AAA has long recognized communities that make outstanding efforts to make the region’s roads safer for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
