The union representing Stop & Shop’s 6,000 union workers announced that it has reached a tentative agreement with the supermarket chain.
The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 1500 members will vote on their new contract on December 23. Members include workers at Stop & Shop’s stores in Westchester and Putnam counties.
In October the union’s workers voted to strike after their contract expired on September 28 and the union alleged that it was in “the final stages of planning for a work stoppage if a deal could not be reached.”
Part of the labor dispute was over healthcare benefits, according to the union.
