A team from Thornton High School in Mount Vernon won the Sports and Arts in Schools Foundation annual step competition in the Bronx on Saturday.
Thornton High came in first place in the advanced division at the “Break the Floor” competition, which brought more than 350 students from 21 schools in New York City and Westchester to New Explorers High School.
“The success of our event hinges on the participation of our students and they do such an amazing job every year,” said SASF CEO Jim O’Neill. “Step is an outstanding team activity that promotes artistic expression and healthy habits. Our staff does a terrific job of choreographing entertaining performances for this citywide event, the culmination of their dedication and hard work.”
Intermediate School 318 in Brooklyn came in first place in the beginner division.
